Privacy Policy — Daily Pastures

Daily Pastures helps you grow in Word-centered faith by turning what’s on your heart (your “focus”) into a daily Scripture devotional you can save, journal against, and revisit. Because a focus and a note are often deeply personal — health, marriage, finances, grief — we treat them as your most sensitive data and have designed the app to protect them.

This policy is written to be accurate. We tell you plainly what we do, what we don’t, and the one thing we are careful not to over-promise.

What we collect

Account: your email address (and the sign-in method you choose — email/password, Google, or Apple). If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email,” we only ever see the relay address Apple provides.
Your focus text: what you type or speak when you set a focus. (Sensitive.)
Your notes: the personal reflections you write on a devotional. (Most sensitive.)
Your devotionals: the daily Scripture devotionals generated for you, and which ones you save.
Preferences: delivery time, timezone, translation, and notification setting.
A device push token (only if you enable notifications), so we can deliver your daily devotional.
Gift purchases, if you buy one on pastures.ai: the recipient’s email address, and your name and note if you write them. See Gifts below.
Beginning with Jesus, if you start it: your progress through the seven readings — that you started, which day you are on, and whether you finished. See Beginning with Jesus below.
Meditation mode, the home-screen widget, collects nothing — what it shows stays on your device. See Meditation mode below.

We do not collect your contact list, location, advertising identifiers, or analytics about the content of your focus or notes.

How your focus and notes are protected

Encrypted in transit and at rest. All traffic uses TLS, and data is encrypted at rest by our database provider, including backups.
Visible only to your account. Per-user access rules are enforced at the database layer, so no other user can ever see your focus, devotionals, or notes.
Never logged. Your focus text, note bodies, and any voice audio are never written to our application logs or analytics.
Voice is not stored. If you record a voice focus, the audio is transcribed and then discarded — we don’t keep the recording.
Sharing never includes your private data. When you share a devotional, only the devotional content (verse, reflection, attribution) is shared — never your notes or your focus text.

How we use AI (and what the providers do with your words)

To turn your focus into a devotional, your focus text is sent securely to our AI providers to classify a theme and write the devotional, and through a content-safety check. Under these providers’ API terms, your data is not used to train their models, and is retained by them only briefly for abuse monitoring.

Your notes are different: notes are personal journaling and are never sent to any AI provider. They are stored for you and shown only to you.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to train AI.

Gifts

If you buy someone a gift on pastures.ai, that is a separate flow from your own account data. Here is all of it.

The recipient’s email address is collected for one purpose: to deliver the redemption code. We do not add it to a mailing list and we do not use it for anything else. If the gift goes unredeemed we send a single reminder, and that is the last of it.
Your name and your note — if you write them — are delivered verbatim to the recipient in that email. Write only what you would want them to read.
Payment is processed by Stripe. Card entry happens entirely on Stripe’s own checkout page: your card details never touch pastures.ai or our servers, and we never store them. Stripe receives your email address so it can send you a receipt, and handles it under its own privacy policy.
The privacy wall. As the giver you learn only whether the code was redeemed — never the recipient’s focus, notes, devotionals, or activity. There is no screen, report, or email anywhere that would tell you any of that, by design.
How long we keep it. We keep the gift record — the purchase, the code, and whether it was redeemed — for as long as we need it to support the gift and to meet our accounting and tax obligations, and then delete it.

If you are the recipient of a gift and would like your email address removed before you redeem it, write to privacy@pastures.ai and we will delete it.

Beginning with Jesus

Beginning with Jesus is a free seven-day journey you can start from pastures.ai/follow-jesus or from inside the app. It is separate from your subscription in every direction: it is free, it does not require Daily Pastures+, and nothing about it affects what you pay or what you can use.

What we store is progress, not a belief. The record says that the journey was started, which day you are on, and whether you finished. It is not a label about what you believe, and it is never used or shared as one.
The link we email you holds no address. If you begin on the web without an account, we send you one link so the journey can be waiting when you sign in. The record behind that link is a hashed token and two timestamps — your email address is used once to send that message and is not stored with it. The link expires after 30 days and the record is then deleted.
No one is told. Nothing about your journey — that you started it, where you are in it, or that you came through that page at all — is ever shown to someone who gave you a gift, to a church or group that sponsored a code, or to anyone else. There is no screen, report, or email anywhere that would tell them, by design.
Deleting your account deletes it. Your journey and its progress go with everything else.

Meditation mode is an optional widget that keeps today’s Scripture on your phone’s home screen, with up to three lines you highlighted from today’s devotional appearing beneath it through the day. It is off until you turn it on, and it is free.

What it shows: today’s Scripture passage and reference, and, if you choose, the lines you highlighted from that day’s devotional, each labelled with where it came from (Reflection, Prayer, or Declaration). It never shows your focus, your notes, or anything you did not highlight yourself.
Where it lives: the widget reads a small copy of that content stored on your device, in a container shared only between the Daily Pastures app and its widget. The widget itself makes no network requests and sends nothing anywhere.
Who can see it: anyone who can see your home screen. We say this plainly before you turn the mode on. If you would rather nothing you highlighted appear there, choose Scripture only and the widget shows the passage alone.
How the app knows a widget is there: while the mode is on, the app asks your phone whether a Daily Pastures widget is on your home screen, only so it can show you how to add one until you have. That answer stays on your device and is not sent to us.
What we record about it: nothing. There is no event, count, or analytics for the widget being shown, changing, or tapped.
When it is cleared: signing out or deleting your account on a device removes the widget’s copy from that device before the sign-out completes. If your account is deleted or signed out from elsewhere, the copy is removed the next time the app wakes on that device.

What we are careful not to claim

We do not offer end-to-end encryption, and we will not tell you that “no one can ever read this.” To create your devotional, your focus must be readable by the app and by our AI providers — that’s how the product works. And to operate and support the service, our team can, in principle, access stored data.

What we can honestly promise: your focus and notes are private to your account, encrypted, never shared or sold, never used to train AI, and never visible to other users. In the app you’ll see this stated simply: “Private to your account, processed securely to create your devotional.”

Your choices and controls

Edit or delete a note at any time.
Set a focus aside, resume it, or delete it — deleting a focus removes its devotionals but keeps anything you saved or wrote a note on.
Turn notifications on or off.
Turn Meditation mode on or off, and choose Scripture only if you would rather nothing you highlighted appear on your home screen.
Delete your account. This permanently erases your focus history, saved devotionals, notes, push tokens, preferences, your Beginning with Jesus progress, and your sign-in account. This cannot be undone.

Data retention

We keep your data until you delete it (per item) or delete your account (everything). Deleted data is removed from our active systems; encrypted backups age out on the provider’s normal schedule.

Children

Daily Pastures is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We’ll update this policy as the app evolves and revise the date above. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
